Hauptwirkstoffe

Triterpene: in allen Ficus-Arten.
-Ficus benjamina: Serrat-3-on (Fc-2), Pentacontanyldecanoat (Fc-1), Friedelin und β-Sitosterol (Parveen et al., 2009).
-Ficus carica: Calotropenylacetat, Methylmaslinat, Lupeolacetat in den Blättern (Saeed & Sabir, 2002).
Proteasen: Ficin A, B, C, D1 und D2 (Azarkan et al., 2011), in allen Ficus-Arten.
Furanocumarine: nur Ficus carica: 5-Methoxypsoralen und 8-Methoxypsoralen (Methoxsalen) im Milchsaft (Bonamonte et al., 2010; Chung et al., 2011), 5-(1",1"-Dimethylallyl)-8-Methylpsoralen und 2"-O-Acetyloxypeucedaninhydrate-3"-Methylether in den Wurzeln (Jain et al., 2013).

Wirkungsmechanismen

Die Triterpene und das Ficin haben eine irritative Wirkung. Die Furanocumarine sind in Kombination mit Sonnenlicht phototoxisch und kanzerogen, indem sie unter UV-Einwirkung eine kovalente Bindungen mit den Pyrimidinbasen der DNA eingehen und so die DNA-Doppelstränge irreversibel miteinander vernetzen (cross-linking).
-Die Schleimhäute werden durch die Triterpene lokal gereizt, was sich mit Vomitus und Diarrhoe äussert.
-Das Nervensystem wird zentral erregt und dann gelähmt.
 
Veterinärtoxikologie

Letale Dosis

LD Zwergkaninchen p.o.:3-4 Blätter von Ficus pumila führten zu Krämpfen, Lähmungen und Tod.
 

Klinische Symptome

Vomitus, Diarrhoe. Bei grossen Mengen Krämpfe und Paralyse möglich.
 

Therapie

Dekontamination / Symptomatische Therapie (siehe Notfalltherapie).
